Photography allows reality to be captured in a moment that amplifies one's perception, as someone tries to reframe reality in an endless way, establishing a generous, intimate relationship with their world, beyond any preconceived notions of it. Therefore, there is a responsibility towards the scenes and various spaces being portrayed, as well demonstrated by the Cañar master photographer Rigoberto Navas, whose lens has exalted everything from the vastness of a landscape to the most telling expression of a citizen who could be any one of us, with their vigor revealed in a simple flash.
For this reason, it is the perfect moment to pay tribute to history, in this generous offering coordinated by the memorable portraitist of our times, Judy Blankenship, who compiled the works of our photographer, covering the period from 1940 to 1960, a time when Ecuador had a dozen presidents and the familiar gestures of civil reinvention that characterize this corner of the world. This, however, reveals the constant need to revitalize the indissoluble connection with our history and the records of our culture, whose banner must never cease to be raised.
