The proposal is based on a holistic and integrative approach, grounded in various learning theories, and is primarily intended for teachers. The research is based on documentary review and content analysis of primary and secondary sources, aiming to identify pedagogical strategies to strengthen the teaching-learning process of literacy.

In recent years, the development of reading and writing habits in childhood has attracted growing interest due to its direct impact on reading comprehension and overall academic achievement. In this context, the book highlights the importance of teacher training, the use of active and technological methodologies, and the collaboration among family, school, and the sociocultural environment as key elements for effective literacy instruction. Furthermore, it emphasizes learning spaces such as reading corners, play libraries, and motivating daily reading activities that foster a positive learning experience.

The work offers both theoretical and practical strategies that enable teachers to more effectively address the literacy learning needs of their students, positioning itself as a valuable tool to strengthen educational practice.
2025-06-02T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/159 La chakana como símbolo intercultural andino. The authors are committed to a profound analysis that not only recognizes the symbolic richness of the chakana but also restores it as a living, active, and transformative matrix of thought. From the Laboratory of Ancestral Knowledge at the Universidad Católica de Cuenca (UCACUE), we acknowledge the relevance of this publication as a substantial contribution to the dialogue between ancestral wisdom and contemporary academic thought.

In a country that is constitutionally recognized as “intercultural and plurinational,” yet still bears the weight of colonial epistemic structures, works like this one are essential. It is not enough to merely mention ancestral knowledge: it is necessary to understand it within its internal logic, to dignify its complexity, to link it to contemporary challenges, and above all, to listen to its voices and its ways of naming the world.

This book does not adopt a merely descriptive approach, nor does it treat the chakana as a folkloric motif. On the contrary, it proposes a dense, critical, and rigorous reading, in which the Andean cross becomes a central axis articulating worldviews, ethical principles, socioeconomic relationships, territorial dimensions, and even epistemological proposals within the field of international relations. The chakana, as presented here, is much more than a symbol: it is a relational system for interpreting reality, a tool for rethinking communal life, and an ontological proposal that challenges the modern paradigm of fragmentation and domination.

The interdisciplinary approach of this work allows for the weaving together of oral and philosophical sources, community practices and constitutional frameworks, as well as the living voices of communities and contemporary academic debates. Its richness lies precisely in this articulation of knowledge from Andean philosophy, decolonial sociology, history, constitutional law, linguistics, cultural studies, solidarity economy, and international relations. This convergence allows us to understand the chakana not only as an ancestral symbol, but also as a contemporary tool for critical reflection and social transformation. This conjunction gives rise to a deeply respectful narrative rooted in the cultural heritage of Abya Yala, from Sumak Kawsay and Suma Qamaña, through analyses of interculturality, relationality, gender justice, biocentrism, and global south diplomacy. Thus, this work becomes a coherent and purposeful fabric of situated knowledge.

For our laboratory, whose goal is to promote the systematization and valorization of ancestral knowledge as an integral part of local, educational, and scientific development, this book represents a significant achievement. We are deeply pleased that its origin is linked to the academic and research work carried out at UCACUE, reinforcing our institutional commitment as a university that is rooted, plural, and in permanent dialogue with the communities that sustain and inspire it.

This text arrives at a historical moment in which the need for other ways of seeing and inhabiting the world becomes urgent. In the face of the ecological, epistemic, and social crises affecting the planet, the chakana is presented as a bridge: between times, between worlds, between ways of being, knowing, and living together. Through its pages, we are invited to imagine a life with different rhythms, different logics, different ethics—where respect for nature, community reciprocity, and the dignity of all beings are at the center.

We invite readers to approach this work not as one would enter a museum of the past, but as one who crosses a threshold into a fairer conversation between knowledge systems. From the Laboratory of Ancestral Knowledge, we reaffirm that the production of texts like this one is not an isolated gesture, but part of a broader struggle for epistemic sovereignty, for the revaluation of our roots, and for the right to build futures that do not resemble the colonial pasts that still dwell within us.
2025-05-27T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/161 Apple Cider and Suro Manufacturing in Aguilán-Ecuador 2025-06-30T15:44:26+00:00 Juan Solis Muñoz autor1@gmail.com Enrique Pozo Cabrera autor2@gmail.com Víctor Tambo Caraguay autor3@gmail.com Luis Merino Jaramillo autor4@gmail.com Jorge Ormaza Andrade autor5@gmail.com Juan Diego Ochoa autor6@gmail.com José Luis Pincay autor7@gmail.com Maritza Maliza Yazuma autor7@gmail.com Ángel Morocho Macas autor8@gmail.com Ana Zamora Vázquez autor9@gmail.com María Caridad Rojas autor10@gmail.com Johanna Reyes Reinoso autor11@gmail.com
The Catholic University of Cuenca (UCACUE) presents the results of applied research on apple cider and suro manufacturing in the community of Aguilán, Guapán parish, Cañar province, Ecuador. Through three chapters, it explores how gender hierarchies influence the production of public space and how this space becomes a discourse in constant construction.

In Chapter 1, the categories of power, gender, and city are established as interpretive tools for analyzing urban processes from a gender perspective. It is argued that socially constructed gender structures directly impact the configuration of space, highlighting that gendering processes are related to their urban environment.

Chapter 2 focuses on the Mariano Moreno/Vivas Nos Queremos Bridge, analyzing the reactions to the protests for the legalization of abortion in 2020. Through anthropological interviews and ethnographic photography, it reveals how these protests transform public space into a battleground for the meaning and appropriation of discourse, emphasizing the importance of context in the construction of space.

Chapter 3 critiques the notion of urbanism as a neutral field, highlighting discrimination against groups such as women. It presents a proposal aimed at addressing these issues through an analysis of public space, gender approach, and feminist urbanism. The methodology GIA (Gender Impact Assessment) is introduced to identify specific needs, proposing strategies such as the implementation of new furniture, murals, and improvements in lighting, with the goal of creating an inclusive, safe urban space conducive to social interactions.

Overall, the book emphasizes the need to integrate a gender perspective in the analysis and design of urban space, promoting an environment that responds to the needs of all inhabitants and fosters social equity.
2025-01-16T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/158 History and Legacy of the Cañari Culture 2025-05-22T20:20:33+00:00 Priscila Ruíz Alvarado autor1@gmail.com Diana Elizabeth Fárez Loja autor2@gmail.com Magdalena Emilia Ordoñez Gavilanes autor3@gmail.com Elio Lindon Rodríguez Almache autor4@gmail.com Marco Vinicio Vásquez autor5@gmail.com Rosa Ildaura Troya Vásquez autor6@gmail.com

Es así que este trabajo busca reivindicar una realidad latente: la Guacamaya brinda un mensaje de cambio y de razón de ser;

2025-01-10T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/146 Basic Accounting for SMEs 2024-12-10T15:59:00+00:00 Narciza Azucena Reyes Cárdenas nareyesc@ucacue.edu.ec Johanna Rosalí Reyes-Reinoso jreyesr@ucacue.edu.ec Froilán Segundo Méndez Vélez fsmendezv@ucacue.edu.ec Mónica Alexandra Lituma Yascaribay mlitumay@ucacue.edu.ec
ThE book, Basic Accounting for SMEs, offers a comprehensive guide designed for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

2024-10-16T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/133 Aplicación del derecho ante los problemas contemporáneos 2024-09-27T21:43:28+00:00 Mariela Isabel González Veintimilla mariela.gonzales@ucacue.edu.ec Joanna Carolina Ramírez Velásquez joanna.ramirez@ucacue.edu.ec Diego Fabián Arévalo Herrera diego.arevalo@ucacue.edu.ec Luis Ernesto Quinde Quizhpi lequindeq@ucacue.edu.ec Julio Cesar Gárate Amoroso jcgarate@ucacue.edu.ec María Gabriela Tixi Torres maría.tixi@ucacue.edu.ec Katherine Nataly Morocho Baculima katherine.morocho@ucacue.edu.ec Edwin Alfredo Arévalo Vázquez earevalov@ucacue.edu.ec Ricardo Agustín Alarcón Vélez ricardo.alarcon@ucacue.edu.ec Jonnathan Adrián Bustamante Sanmartín jabustamantes49@est.ucacue.edu.ec Fernando Miguel Orellana Toledo fmorellanat97@est.ucacue.edu.ec Nelson Ernesto Quinde Orellana nelson.quinde@est.ucacue.edu.ec Brenda Estefanía Salazar Peralta besalazarp00@est.ucacue.edu.ec Janneth Jazmín Quinde Orellana jjquindeo96@estucacue.edu.ec Andrea Daniela Ortega Alvarado andrea.ortega@est.ucacue.edu.ec Xavier Adolfo Sarmiento Chávez xavier.sarmiento@est.ucacue.edu.ec Leslie Alejandra Parra Guilcapi leslie.parra@est.ucacue.edu.ec Victoria Elizabeth Freire Goyes Victoria.freire@est.ucacue.edu.ec Bryan Javier Mendoza Cusme bjmendozac68@est.ucacue.edu.ec.com Yasmany Jesús Rivas Palacios yjrivasp188@est.ucacue.edu.ec Ana Cristina Naula Flores ana.naula@est.ucacue.edu.ec María José Correa Pardo mjcorreap98@est.ucacue.edu.ec
The application of law in Ecuadorian society plays a fundamental role in regulating interactions and peacefully resolving conflicts, aiming to promote order, justice, and general well-being. Therefore, this book addresses various social, economic, environmental, and technological issues, the resolution of which requires the application of the legal framework.

It examines key topics such as gender-based violence, highlighting its impact during the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for preventive and punitive measures. The book also analyzes abortion, focusing on the normative and jurisprudential evolution that has led to its legalization in certain contexts, reflecting changes in values and human rights.

Additionally, the work explores the legal challenges posed by cybercrime in a digitized world, as well as the need for updated regulations. It addresses the importance of constitutional guarantees, such as habeas corpus to protect individual freedom and precautionary measures to prevent the violation of rights. Another important topic in the procedural realm is the principle of orality in judicial processes and the relevance of body language for effective communication in the legal field. In this regard, it also examines summary judicial procedures and their impact on efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Furthermore, the book highlights the importance of prescription as a method for extinguishing obligations, ensuring legal certainty. It also considers access to higher education and the need for equitable admission processes, as well as the right to dignified work in the context of the digital economy and the challenge of labor precarization in this area.

Finally, it addresses air quality as a fundamental right, emphasizing the need for effective regulations to ensure a healthy environment. This involves studying the effects of medications on the oral cavity and dental structures, as well as their use in treating and preventing clinical situations related to oral health, such as odontogenic infections.

Dentists have the ability to prescribe a variety of medications to treat conditions such as bacterial infections, pain, inflammation, and other dental issues. These medications can be administered in various forms, including tablets, capsules, suspensions, syrups, topical gels, and aerosols, among others. Pharmacology in dentistry also encompasses knowledge of drug interactions and side effects, both locally and systemically, which can influence dental treatment and the overall health of the patient. Therefore, it is essential for dental students and professionals to be well-informed about the fundamental aspects of medications to ensure effective and safe treatment for their patients.

This book is designed to assist undergraduate students and dental professionals in understanding and remembering key aspects of pharmacology, serving as a valuable resource when prescribing and therapeutically managing patients. The work consists of seven chapters, starting with a comprehensive chapter that thoroughly describes the general principles of pharmacology, covering everything from basic concepts to drug dosage calculations. The following chapters detail the drugs used in various clinical situations encountered in dentistry, including antimicrobial agents, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, local anesthetics, and antihistamines. Additionally, pharmacological protocols used in endodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery are covered. Each chapter emphasizes medications commonly employed in dentistry, with special attention to therapeutic applications, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug interactions, adverse reactions, and dosages for adults and children.

Therefore, pharmacology applied to dentistry is essential for providing comprehensive and quality care to patients, enabling dentists to select and administer appropriate medications for each clinical situation while minimizing risks and maximizing the benefits of dental treatment.
2024-09-23T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/140 Infectious Deseases 2024-10-15T21:51:15+00:00 Carlos Enrique Flores Montesinos cflores@ucacue.edu.ec Daniela Belén Mendieta Zumba daniela.mendieta@est.ucacue.edu.ec Lisbeth Carolina Iglesias Argudo lisbeth.iglesias@est.ucacue.edu.ec Ana Gabriela Muñoz Muñoz gabriela.munoz@est.ucacue.edu.ec Jennifer Micaela Cañizares Herrera jennifer.canizares@est.ucacue.edu.ec Daniela Cristina Cárdenas Gómez daniela.cardenas@est.ucacue.edu.ec William Fernando Samaniego Cando fernandocando1210@gmail.com Narley Rocío Palta Tenecela narley.palta@est.ucacue.edu.ec Doménica Patricia Zúñiga Iñiguez domenica.zuñiga@est.ucacue.edu.ec Karla Nicole Martínez Rogel karla.martinez@est.ucacue.edu.ec Sthefanny Marcela Chunchi Bacuilima sthefanny.chunchi@est.ucacue.edu.ec Salome Alejandra Molina Molina salome.molina@est.ucacue.edu.ec Daniela Alexandra Uchuari Rogel dauchuarir74@est.ucacue.edu.ec Elian Ariel Morales Cueva elian.morales@est.ucacue.edu.ec Jennifer Melisa Ortega Espinoza melisa.ortega@est.ucacue.edu.ec Juliza Pilar Pilco Gavilanes juliza.pilco@est.ucacue.edu.ec Verónica Sofía Tapia Mora veronica.tapia@est.ucacue.edu.ec Nataly Estefanía Picón Tenesaca nataly.picon@est.ucacue.edu.ec
The textbook "Infectiology Guide, Volumes I and II" is a study guide that covers topics related to infectious diseases. It is explained in six chapters. The first chapter corresponds to craniofacial growth and development to understand the mechanisms and differentiation of craniofacial growth in the individual, starting with the knowledge of the embryonic structures that are precursors to future soft and hard tissues of the head, face, and neck.

In the second chapter, the development of occlusion will be studied through an understanding of the different dentitions, with an emphasis on the primary dentition, which is responsible for maintaining the appropriate dimensions and characteristics in the dental arch for the eruption of permanent teeth until physiological permanent occlusion.

In chapter three, the etiopathogenesis of skeletal and dental malocclusion will be analyzed, as well as the etiology, prevalence, classification, and clinical characteristics of malocclusions in the three planes of space: sagittal, transverse, and vertical.

In the fourth chapter, functional diagnosis will be emphasized, which is essential for determining dysfunctions that influence dental and skeletal anomalies and for establishing an appropriate orthodontic treatment plan.

In the fifth chapter, macro-aesthetics will be analyzed from the frontal perspective, as well as micro-aesthetics. Additionally, model analysis will be presented as an aid for determining the diagnosis of malocclusions in the dental arches both individually and in occlusion across the three planes of space.

In the final chapter, the execution of cephalometric tracings such as Steiner, McNamara, the determination of the Vert coefficient, as well as the WITS measurement and Baccetti analysis, which addresses the maturation of cervical vertebrae, will be described. The interpretation of these allows for determining the position and relationship of cranio-maxillary structures in the sagittal and vertical planes. It concludes with a guide for preparing the clinical record in orthodontics.

The relevance of the information provided is based on the importance of establishing a diagnosis while understanding all the foundations of the alteration. According to the WHO (2020), 1 in 5 women and 1 in 13 men have suffered some form of abuse during their childhood. Additionally, thousands of children under 15 have died due to homicide, excluding armed conflicts. Child abuse, often justified as discipline, gives a false sense of power to parents. From a psychoanalytic perspective, Freud and Lacan suggest that aggression and hostility are innate human impulses. Freud (1985) identifies a mix of Eros (life instinct) and Thanatos (death instinct) in these tendencies, while Lacan (1971) attributes violence to the breakdown of social bonds. Although culture and sublimation attempt to contain these impulses, repressed violence tends to resurface. Childhood trauma, linked by Freud to the development of hysteria, is also associated with obsessive-compulsive neuroses when traumatic events cannot be properly symbolized, deeply affecting the child's development. Psychological assessment has evolved from Plato and Aristotle to modern studies that consider individual differences and mental processes. Francis Galton and James McKeen Cattell were pioneers in the creation of psychological tests. The protection and safety of children in their family and social environments are essential for their emotional and mental development. Studies show that parenting based on affection and proper care is crucial for healthy growth. Intergenerational teaching and the quality of parental relationships significantly influence the development of children. A lack of adequate parenting skills can perpetuate violence and negatively affect child development. The knowledge and practice of respectful parenting, which involves affection and respect, are essential to breaking the cycle of abuse.
2024-07-04T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/89 Embarazo adolescente Entre inocencia y madurez forzada 2024-06-28T14:28:11+00:00 Sandra Jackeline Urgilés León surgilesl@ucacue.edu.ec Nancy Yolanda Fernández Aucapiña nfernandeza@ucacue.edu.ec Blanca de los Ángeles Herrera Hugo bherrerah@ucacue.edu.ec Bertha Janeth Cárdenas Lata bcardenasl@ucacue.edu.ec Jenny Irlanda Tapia Segarra jtapias@ucacue.edu.ec Andrés Ernesto Cañizares Medina acanizaresm@ucacue.edu.ec Marifé Jacqueline Almeida Bazurto marife.almeida@est.ucacue.edu.ec Anette Nathalie Kastdalen Mendoza nathalie.kastdalen@est.ucacue.edu.ec Ruth Paulina Célleri Alvear ruth.celleri@est.ucacue.edu.ec Rocío del Carmen Serrano Barquín dserranob@uaemex.mx Carolina Serrano Barquín mcserranob@uaemex.mx Héctor Paulino Serrano Barquín hectorsb2012@uaemex.mx Yanelli Daniela Palmas Castrejón ydpalmasc@uaemex.mx Adelaida Rojas García arojasg@uaemex.mx Leonor Guadalupe Delgadillo Guzmán lgdelgadillog@uaemex.mx Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado mpzarzad@uaemex.mx Adrián Gerardo Vergara Cuadros avergarac253@profesor.uaemex.mx Alejandra García Arista Legarista87@gmail.com
Adolescent pregnancy is a social and public health phenomenon that goes beyond biology, being influenced by a variety of psychosocial factors that significantly impact the lives of young women and their environments. This social problem is present worldwide, with high percentages in Latin America and developing countries. Statistics show the acceleration in recent decades of births to adolescents at early ages, a situation that has forced the state to work rapidly on campaigns, strategies, and social policies aimed at reducing the adolescent pregnancy rate. The causes of pregnancy are diverse and include a lack of sexual education, limited access to contraceptives, social pressures, cultural influences, low self-esteem, and in some cases, ignorance about how to prevent pregnancy. This problem generates an impact on health, the social sphere, and education. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC, 2023), the birth rate indicates that for every '1,000 girls aged 10 to 14 in 2022, there are 2.3 live births (...) 38,087 live births to mothers aged 15 to 19, corresponding to a rate of 47.3 live births per 1,000 women.' Ecuador is one of the countries in Latin America with the highest number of adolescent pregnancies. This study has allowed for a more in-depth understanding of early pregnancy statistics and the sociodemographic and psychosocial factors that influence this issue.

It is important to implement public policies to reduce adolescent pregnancy in terms of sexual and reproductive rights. This poses significant challenges in Mexico and Ecuador, where this issue has been a priority and is intertwined with cultural, economic, and gender dynamics, creating a multifaceted scenario that requires an integrated approach for its understanding and resolution.

In Mexico, adolescent pregnancy is a major concern due to its high incidence and the complex circumstances surrounding it. Despite efforts by the government and civil organizations to address this issue, adolescent pregnancy rates remain high, underscoring the need for comprehensive and effective prevention and care strategies.

On the other hand, in Ecuador, adolescent pregnancy also represents a significant challenge, with worrying figures showing the vulnerability of adolescents to this situation. Factors such as the lack of access to comprehensive sexual education, poverty, gender discrimination, and limited economic opportunities contribute to perpetuating this problem, affecting the well-being of both adolescent mothers and their children.

In this context, it is imperative to analyze the conceptualizations, theories, causes, effects, and possible prevention and care strategies for adolescent pregnancy in Mexico and Ecuador. This analysis will not only allow for a better understanding of the complexity of the situation but also identify concrete actions to promote the comprehensive development of adolescents and ensure their right to a healthy and fulfilling life.

In both countries, social and cultural norms play a crucial role in shaping the experience of adolescent pregnancy. In many communities, stigmas and taboos surrounding sexuality and reproduction persist, making it difficult to access information and sexual and reproductive health services. The lack of comprehensive sexual education and the silence around the topic contribute to misinformation and risky behaviors among adolescents.

The economic situation of families also influences the prevalence of adolescent pregnancy. In poverty-stricken environments, young women may face limited educational and job opportunities, increasing the likelihood of unwanted pregnancies. In many cases, pregnancy is seen as an alternative to the lack of future prospects, reflecting the intersection between economic and reproductive factors.

Gender inequalities are a fundamental factor contributing to adolescent pregnancy in Mexico and Ecuador. Adolescent girls, especially those from marginalized groups, face greater barriers to accessing education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. The lack of autonomy and decision-making power over their own bodies leaves them vulnerable to coercive or abusive relationships, increasing the risk of unplanned pregnancies.

Social and family pressure can significantly influence adolescents' reproductive decisions. In many cases, family and community expectations regarding the role of women as mothers can implicitly pressure them to start motherhood at a young age. Additionally, the lack of open communication within families makes it difficult for adolescents to seek support and guidance on sexual and reproductive health.

Adolescent pregnancy presents a series of psychosocial challenges for young women, who face significant emotional, social, and cognitive changes during this developmental stage. The lack of emotional support and discrimination can increase the risk of depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems both during pregnancy and in the postpartum period.

The primary goal of this book is to analyze adolescence and pregnancy in the Ecuadorian and Mexican contexts to better understand the complex situation of this social phenomenon and to identify concrete actions that lead to the full development of adolescents.
2024-06-05T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/90 Cañar, desde la mirada de Rigoberto Navas 2024-07-02T16:57:39+00:00 Judy Blankenship judyblanken@gmail.com Priscila Isabel Ruíz Alvarado pruiza@ucacue.edu.ec Carlos Antonio Valverde Lojano cvalverdel@ucacue.edu.ec Marco Vinicio Vásquez Bernal marco.vasquez@unae.edu.ec
Photography allows reality to be captured in a moment that amplifies one's perception, as someone tries to reframe reality in an endless way, establishing a generous, intimate relationship with their world, beyond any preconceived notions of it. The aim of this book is to update oral and maxillofacial radiology concepts for their use in dental clinics. The publication of this work is necessary due to a lack of knowledge about basic and useful concepts among dentists, who frequently use ionizing radiation in a continuous, and often indiscriminate and fearful, manner. Therefore, it will be a valuable contribution to its application in clinical practice.

As mentioned earlier, the relationship between the chapters follows a sequence of concepts that align with clinical practice. Chapter I addresses topics related to the use of ionizing radiation prior to its application. Chapter II covers topics related to the use of X-ray equipment, which will help the clinician avoid unnecessary radiation exposure based on parameters such as age, weight, and the clinical conditions of each particular case. Chapter III will deal with topics focused on safeguarding the lives of patients and personnel responsible for using X-rays, as it discusses radiological protection measures applied in dental clinics. Finally, Chapter IV covers the basic intraoral radiographic techniques used in clinical practice, helping dentists identify the type of radiograph to use according to the patient's clinical conditions. In general, this book will address essential topics for dental clinics, debunking myths that have persisted about the use of ionizing radiation in dentistry.
2024-04-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/91 Responsabilidad social del sector cooperativo ecuatoriano 2024-07-03T10:11:44+00:00 Johanna Rosalí Reyes Reinoso jreyesr@ucacue.edu.ec Mary Josefina Urdaneta urdaneta_mary@fces.luz.edu.ve Manuel Felipe Álvarez Galeano manuel.alvarez@ucacue.edu.ec
This situation represents a true limiting germ for local, national, and global territorial development. This book offers a perspective on various aspects of governmental and social re-composition as a call to safeguard that can transform our communities into spaces that uphold harmony and peaceful coexistence as the fundamental norm, rather than the exception, in the pursuit of building peaceful cities and communities. Here, we citizens must take charge of well-being and peace policies, moving from decades of social lethargy to recurrent proactivity as a real scheme for positive peace, shifting the obligation of the state to provide it into a role as a guarantor and social partner.

Peaceful cities are not merely principles and thoughts to be integrated into the future, but rather, after exploring various public and private spheres, we have verified guidelines for peaceful coexistence that require current collaborative work aimed at building a better future that also creates a better present, where respect for rights flows under a well-defined framework that is sustainable and generates an ecosystem based on cooperation and shared responsibility outlined by positive peace.

A city of peace is conceptualized as an inclusive geographic space that embraces the dynamic interaction between government and citizens, where conflict resolution methods promote social cohesion and peaceful dispute resolution. In this sense, the quid pro quo between both parties becomes the foundation upon which the structure of urban peace is built, allowing for the creation of community chains in a multidimensional manner based on the synchronization of subjective well-being among compatible communities.

However, peace transcends geographical boundaries and intertwines with the constitutional principles of human rights and the good living of citizens as a system of quality of life. Here, public welfare policies are generated that seek to prevent violence and promote citizen participation and the inclusion of marginalized communities.

Public safety, community participation in crime prevention, and social reintegration mechanisms stand as essential pillars in the construction of peaceful cities. Furthermore, peace agents from various sectors of society play a crucial role in reducing structural violence and promoting a culture of peace, while preventing the escalation of social conflict, based on individual interests within the community framework.

This book provides an analysis of key factors for finding progress, including education, socioeconomic development, citizen participation, prioritized controversial treatment through mediation methodologies, and violence prevention to forge stronger and more resilient communities.

As we advance through these academically rooted pages, we invite readers to reflect on their own social role in fostering peace within their environment and areas of influence, according to their role in the social production system of their community. Commitment is not confined to a single public or private sphere; each reader will discover their power to contribute to change, becoming a peacemaking architect who designs fairer and more peaceful spaces for future generations, fully assuming a proactive role that structural peace demands against the structural violence that characterizes modern cities.

The general principles discussed for building peace represent a conceptual and ethical framework that guides actions and strategies designed to promote, establish, and preserve an environment of harmony, justice, and stability at both local and international levels. These principles encompass a series of essential values that have proven fundamental for achieving peaceful and lasting coexistence among people and nations. We will explore how their attention is essential for development.

The focus leaves us with a perspective toward implementing policies aimed at achieving a dignified life, overcoming poverty, inequality, and discrimination. The effort is to envision a municipal order of social cohesion that includes public spaces and basic services close to the community. In the international context, cities of coexistence and peace will seek to align with global agendas for construction and integration, reaffirming the peacekeeping commitment in all its dimensions.

Ultimately, this compendium invites reflection on the transformative power of practical dialogue and interculturality in various community management efforts; such as water management, the promotion of comprehensive health for peace, and the use of criminology as a tool to foster safe and peaceful urban environments.

The wisdom and experience of various experts serve as a beacon of hope in the relentless pursuit of a world where peace is the legacy we leave for future generations. May these reflections, born from an integrative space like academia, inspire concrete and transformative actions in the construction of peaceful cities, where every individual finds a safe and welcoming home.
2024-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/82 Excel for Sugar Engineers and Technologists 2024-05-06T09:19:43+00:00 Cesar Remigio Vega Abad crvegaa@ucacue.edu.ec Oscar Oswaldo Vásquez Coronel oovasquezc@yahoo.com Luis Cornelio Romero Mogrovejo lromerom@ucacue.edu.ec
The book “Excel for Sugar Engineers and Technologists,” while specifically written for sugar technicians and professionals, can also serve as a reference manual for application in other professions or fields of knowledge, such as engineering, health sciences, agronomy, economics, administration, and more.

The research titled "El Taita Carnaval de la cultura cañari: rescate de una tradición ancestral" focuses on the need to explore identity, development, and contributions from the past in both local and national contexts, contrasting this with the current reality of neglect and disregard from pre-Hispanic times to the present. It considers that the constant struggle of the Indigenous movement for the creation of a new state has led to the incorporation of collective rights into the constitutional and legal reforms of American states. Following the 2008 Constitution, the Ecuadorian state ceased to be a pluri-cultural, multi-ethnic state and became an intercultural and plurinational state.

With the establishment of this new intercultural and plurinational state, legal reforms were introduced to reflect this character. One significant topic included in the innovation of the Organic Code of Judicial Function is the Declination of Jurisdiction, defined as a procedural system for cooperation and coordination between ordinary justice and Indigenous justice, a right exercised by the authorities of Indigenous communities, peoples, and nationalities. This mechanism is activated through a summary procedure, requiring the sworn declaration of the Indigenous authority for the petition to be accepted.

It is important to clarify that the summary procedure for the Declination of Jurisdiction is not the same as that established in COGEP (the General Organic Code of Processes). It is an exceptional and exclusive process for Indigenous authorities, not for the defendant (COFJ 2009, art. 345). The law clearly establishes that judges who become aware of a case under Indigenous jurisdiction must decline their jurisdiction.

The main difference between the summary procedure in COGEP and that of the Declination of Jurisdiction lies in the simplicity of the former, which is conducted in a single hearing in two phases: the first for preliminary issues, setting the points for debate, and reconciliation; and the second for evidence and closing arguments. In contrast, in the Declination of Jurisdiction process, the Indigenous authority must, through a sworn statement, demonstrate their status as an Indigenous justice authority and their competence to judge and sanction the offender within the community. Additionally, within a three-day period, they must prove the relevance of transferring jurisdiction from ordinary justice to Indigenous justice.

The Constitutional Court has developed jurisprudence regarding this right. In Judgment 134-EP/20 dated July 20, 2020, the court established that, upon receiving a request for Declination of Jurisdiction, the judge or tribunal must verify the existence of an Indigenous justice process and, if found to be true, cannot refuse to grant the request. This jurisprudence removes the discretionary power of the judge and fully enforces the constitutional recognition of Indigenous jurisdiction. Furthermore, the ruling emphasizes that no ordinary judge can review cases under Indigenous justice. Should there be dissatisfaction with a final decision of Indigenous justice, the appropriate route for disputing that decision is through the extraordinary protection action.

Under this logic, it is crucial to approach a genuine process of coordination and cooperation between Indigenous and ordinary justice. This understanding builds an intercultural justice system that strengthens the intercultural and plurinational state. The analysis in this work begins with a monist and pluralist approach to law, highlighting two philosophical perspectives: the theory of legal monism developed by Hans Kelsen, which argues that "other national laws [besides state law] and international law should not be considered valid sets of norms but mere facts devoid of legal significance" (Kelsen, 1960, p. 207). In contrast, Boaventura de Sousa argues that "legal pluralism is a theory based on the idea that two legal orders can coexist within a given space and time, opposing the monopoly of state-produced legal norms" (De Sousa, 2011).

The pluralist theory maintains that the state is not the only source of legal norms; social groups distinct from the state also have the legitimacy to create them, provided they establish their objectives, define mechanisms to achieve those objectives, and assign specific roles to individuals within the group, ensuring that all contribute through established means to the collective goal (Bobbio, 2005, pp. 10-13).

The second part of the book addresses the principles of equality and non-discrimination, distinguishing between formal equality, material equality, and non-discrimination. This analysis is based on constitutional precedents set by the Constitutional Court and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR).

The third part examines the jurisdiction and authority of Indigenous leaders to resolve conflicts within their territorial scope. It distinguishes between ordinary and Indigenous jurisdiction, recognizing that Indigenous customs and traditions serve as the foundation of Indigenous law, granting these authorities the power to adjudicate internal conflicts.

The fourth part explains the summary procedure in detail, focusing on three steps that must be followed for the ordinary judge to verify and grant the Declination of Jurisdiction. This section emphasizes the need for cooperation between strong (state) law and weak (Indigenous) law, allowing the complexity of the former to be simplified by the latter for more efficient resolution of long-pending cases.

In conclusion, the book argues that while the Organic Code of Judicial Function provides for the Declination of Jurisdiction, this right has been underutilized due to the lack of commitment from ordinary justice operators to recognize the legal and constitutional value of Indigenous justice decisions.
2023-06-26T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/72 Memorias III Congreso Internacional 2023-11-23T11:52:23+00:00 Manuel Felipe Álvarez Galeano manuel.alvarez@ucacu.edu.ec Stéphane Vinolo svinolo@puce.edu.ec José Efraín Astudillo Banegas jose.astudillob@ucuenca.edu.ec Inés Patricia Vicuña Peralta pvicunap@ucacue.edu.ec Yessenia Fernanda Suquinagua Arévalo ysuquinaguaa@ucacue.edu.ec Wilson Patricio Bermeo Vivar abacclexabwilson@gmail.com Salvador Uriel Martínez Marín salvador.martinezm@ug.edu.ec Juan Bautista Solis-Muñoz jbsolizm@ucacue.edu.ec Johanna Rosalí Reyes Reinoso jreyesr@ucacue.edu.ec Narciza Azucena Reyes Cárdenas nareyesc@ucacue.edu.ec Annabelle Mireya Alexandra Rosero Escalante alexarosero@yahoo.es
In other words, it seeks to provide the most basic tools so that those entering the legal field have the fundamental keys, concepts, and essential knowledge to understand what we mean when we say 'Law' and under what conditions or with what assumptions one can work with this crucial tool of social engineering called 'Law.' To draw a comparison, it is what Economic Theory must do in relation to the study of Economics, or what Anatomy and Physiology provide as the foundation for the study of Medicine. If a medical student does not know the difference between a bone and a tendon, does not know what a lymphocyte is, or is unfamiliar with the names of the muscles in the arm or how they relate to movement, they may memorize the other subjects they take (Cardiology, Gynecology, Ophthalmology…), but they will be severely impaired in understanding and effectively applying their knowledge. The same applies to the law student who goes through their career without understanding the differences between a legal norm and a religious one, for instance, or why and how legal norms must be interpreted, or what the relationship between rights and obligations is, or why the law is coercive, how it is so and with what limits, or what it means for a state to be a state governed by the rule of law, etc., etc.
2022-07-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2022 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/100 Cuentos jurídicos 2024-09-20T14:08:24+00:00 Silvio José Castellanos Herrera autor2@gmail.com
"This text includes two stories. The identity of people is forged by the foundation of their historical past. Telling documented history is a serious responsibility to present and future generations. This historical-literary work traces a journey that clears the little-known path of the province of Cañar, through its three phases: attempt, creation, and ratification of the provincial jurisdiction.

The book is structured into eight chapters. Chapter 1 reviews the background of the independence of the territories of the Province of Cuenca, the episode of the Battle of Verdeloma—its intrinsic value—and the end of the newly constituted Republic of Cuenca. It also covers the creation of the cantons of Cañar and Azogues under Azuay's jurisdiction, which lasted for over five decades until the creation of the Province of Azogues in 1880.

Chapter 2 recounts the proud stance of the people of Azogues in response to the ill-fated and hasty attempt by Tomás Cipriani de Mosquera, President of the United States of Colombia, to forcibly annex Ecuador to the North in 1863. It highlights the legitimate act of constituting the Province of the Andes and the appointment of Carlos Ordóñez Laso as Governor of the Province of the Andes during the interim presidency of Gabriel García Moreno in 1869.

Chapter 3 describes the historical context surrounding the creation of the Province of Azogues in 1880. It discusses the formation of the "Pro-Azogues Committee" and the petition by the Cantonal Council of Azogues to the Republic’s Congress to create a new province. It covers the Legislative Decree creating the "Province of Azogues" on November 3, 1880, and the execution order issued by General Ignacio de Veintimilla, President of Ecuador, on November 17, 1880. It also details the formation of the new province and its governors.

Chapter 4 narrates the 1883 Convention, its background and consequences, and the ratification of the Province of Azogues under the Territorial Division Law of April 23, 1884, renaming it the Province of Cañar with Azogues as its capital. It outlines a timeline of governors representing constitutional governments, civil dictatorships, interim regimes, and military dictatorships until 1979.

Chapter 5 describes the return to constitutional rule after nearly a decade of military dictatorship, detailing the governors who represented democratic regimes and the emergence of women in the role of Governor of Cañar.

Chapter 6 highlights the governments of recent years and the governors who represented them.

Chapter 7 details the historical moments of acquiring and later constructing the Governor's Office building in Cañar and its main contributors.

Chapter 8 presents the conclusion, featuring the poem Historia Patria by Emilio Abad Aguilar (1893) and the epic composition Poema Bicentenario 200, which captures the historical milestones of Ecuador's independence.

The book "Governors of the Province of Cañar" is a faithful testament to documented history, opening its pages to new questions and potential historical-academic contributions.
This document highlights the economic and social advancements that, over time, help us understand the current socioeconomic phenomena, such as the interrelation between the evolution of societies and their high dependence on integration. The evidence it holds is a complete cultural testimony of the use of different construction technologies and material resources that respond to the various ways of life of its inhabitants, visible in different historical periods, which are still present in various urban and rural contexts. In the southern part of Ecuador, there is enough architectural evidence that highlights the richness of the proposed solutions that have been perfected over time.

The best testimonies are not always exclusive to urban contexts; they are also scattered throughout rural territories belonging to different regions or ecological zones of the country. The most varied examples of rural architecture still exist today, across many of these geographic spaces and cultural settings, which are key determinants of their essence, form, and content.

Currently, new ideas and ways of life are affecting the persistence of the image of traditional rural architecture and its cultural landscape. The increasing dominance of new architectural objects over different territories only highlights the ongoing abandonment of traditional construction practices and the trades upon which they were based. Turning our attention back to those practices that resulted in products with a strong identity means recovering the richness contained in many of the manifestations of Ecuadorian Vernacular Architecture.

It is in this regard that the present research work on the traditional architecture of Cojitambo is developed, a parish located 10 km west of Azogues, the cantonal head and capital of the Cañar province. In general, in the territory of this parish, an important vernacular testimony is preserved, but it is undergoing an accelerated process of destruction and disappearance.
2019-11-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2019 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/150 El Perfeccionamiento de los Contratos 2025-01-28T20:47:04+00:00 Fernando Patricio Moreno Morejón autor2@gmail.com
This analysis focuses on the so-called phase of contract perfection. In this second fragment, the author establishes a clear objective, to reveal the submissive and functional position in the face of a “Western” urban theory, which is assumed as absolute truth by the Latin American community; questioning the position of resistance, rebellious and even innovative of the Latin American architect as a “social bandit” who does nothing more than reaffirm a socio-spatial production with unquestionable neoliberal interests and visions. In this context, the way of thinking and understanding the city brings with it at least two consequences that have a decisive weight in the construction of the contemporary Latin American city. This book does not present conclusive results or complex methodologies to understand the Latin American city, rather it poses a challenge and identifies the tip of the ball, which allows the construction of a clearly alternative urban discourse. This work aims to provide an approach that allows the reader to have a kaleidoscopic view of the couple, its formation, its constant changes, its diversity, its final stage, and its encounter with challenges that lead to therapeutic consultation. It focuses on the meeting of two worlds, from the "I" to the "We," both in the couple and in the therapeutic relationship.
2018-07-20T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2018 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/149 Milestones of the Ecuadorian Constitution 2025-01-23T19:43:28+00:00 Vicente Manuel Solano-Paucay, Coord. In Milestones of the Ecuadorian Constitution, Professors Solano Paucay and Aguilera Crespo have gathered a group of scholars who have rigorously examined the main constitutional issues that remain relevant: the concept of a constitutional state, the interpretation of the Constitution, the nature of power, constitutional reform... These issues are more relevant than ever, as they are part of the theoretical framework that any Constitution must encompass. A Constitution that is not revised, that fails to engage the academic community, and about which nothing is written, is a dead Constitution.
2018-07-20T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/103 Bioestadística 2024-09-20T16:05:51+00:00 Froilán Segundo Méndez Vélez fsmendezv@ucacue.edu.ec Milton Bolívar Romo Toledo mbromot@ucacue.edu.ec Gabriela Alejandra Ortega-Castro Ortega Castro gaortegac@ucacue.edu.ec
This statistics book aims to provide students of Medical Sciences and professionals in the sector with an easy and attractive guide that allows them to face biomedical research and enter the fascinating world of statistics. The subject has been reviewed in the relevant chapters, starting with the basic topics, and then continuing with specific diseases. On some occasions, in the chapter on neoplasias reference is made to molecular matters essential for understanding the processes. It begins with adaptation processes in which physiological mechanisms are brought into play in order for the cell to maintain its viability. The mechanisms that damage its integrity and that ultimately lead to cell death are indicated. Subsequently, general topics of pathology are analyzed, trying to explain its mechanisms to understand them in their entirety, and finally, specific diseases are addressed in the same way.
2018-03-20T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2018 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/108 Correlación entre la Medicina de Laboratorio y las Ciencias Básicas y Clínicas 2024-09-20T18:59:13+00:00 Julio César Sempértegui Vega pesemperteguia73@est.ucacue.edu.ec Sandra Patricia Ochoa Zamora sochoa@ucacue.edu.ec Poleth Estefania Sempértegui Alvarado pesemperteguia73@est.ucacue.edu.ec Mateo Esteban Zea Cabrera mezeac68@est.ucacue.edu.ec
This book is a text aimed primarily at Undergraduate Medicine students, due to the need to have a bibliography of basic exam topics as well as other chapters that should be reviewed in later years, but always prioritizing humans, as healthy beings. or as patients with a pathology, whether acute or chronic, with or without an etiological diagnosis. It should be noted that terms with integrative concepts have been used, discarding some classic and common ones that do not agree with the conception. Consequently, not everything written will have to be reviewed and assimilated by V and VI cycle students, but rather they will study a smaller syllabus and making very evident the interrelation in the semiological exploration, the interrogation with risk factors and the incubation period. Likewise, the physiological reference values of normality in healthy people in the population are defined; since in devices and manuals there are very extensive figures without defining the age groups, sex, physiological state, and compensatory situations that when giving a reference value sometimes reach decompensation and is interpreted as an excuse without quality control. The concepts of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are defined, which leads us to have clarity in the chapters of the text.
2018-01-08T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2018 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/93 Analysis of special functions 2024-09-19T18:39:08+00:00 Carlos Fernando Méndez Martínez cmendez@ucacue.edu.ec
The book Análisis de Funciones Especiales proposes an ambitious goal: to explain the functionality of special mathematical functions. In other words, it aims to describe in simple and concrete terms what these functions are used for. The first question that arises is: what is considered a special mathematical function? The answer seems straightforward: special functions are those that model a reality in a symbolic format to replicate that reality. By reading Méndez Martínez's work, students will find answers to their questions, mathematics teachers will have the support of an appropriate methodology and language for their work, and researchers will have access to a proposal that establishes a path and suggests a course of action.
2017-12-29T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2017 EDUNICA https://publicaciones.edunica.com.ec/index.php/edunica/catalog/book/94 Violencia Intrafamiliar.
