Synopsis

The work represents an effort to provide updated information about the social determinants of health, first focusing on Ecuador and then on the province and canton of Cañar. In its pages, readers will find an overview of the main health issues, including the health emergency caused by COVID-19, which may be of interest as a source of scientific information for students, educators, and other stakeholders involved in public health. Regarding the canton, cultural aspects are presented that allow for an appreciation of its collective imagination.

Additionally, there is an updated and forward-looking vision of Nursing Science on the global stage, including its theorists, trends, and theoretical frameworks. In the Ecuadorian context, the number of professionals and the needs for human talent are highlighted.

Furthermore, some characteristics of the Nursing Program at the Cañar Extension of the Catholic University of Cuenca are described, such as the transdisciplinary map of the redesigned curricular project from 2018, a summary of the most recent employability study, and the number of aspiring, enrolled, and graduated students.
